EMOCRATIC REPUBLIC – SLIDE PRESENTATION AND TALK
By Mohd Azlan Mam

Azlan will be presenting slides and talk about his fine art series “Emocratic Republic”. Azlan describes “Emocratic” as a piece of music and a melody, like a sonata and its own concerto. Through this silent opus of composition, we move within the stream of lyrical, poetic, and humanistic visions – melodic yet silent. This symphony is about something but nothing. It is not saying anything – [ mute ]. To Azlan this republic is bigger than any declaration, expression and the right to speak.

He studied at the University of Malaya Medical Centre, graduated in Medical Imaging (1996), majoring in interventional Radiological procedures. He specializes in Multi Slice CT Coronary Angiogram and Coronary Imaging.

ALTERNATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY & PROCESSES
By Aqmal Hadi Shapee and Yoong Kean

Aqmal and Yoong Khean will talk about some of the alternative photography processes and what it entails in this digital age.

Aqmal Hadi Shapee is a based in KL-based photographer, and trained as a marketing communications person in New Zealand. His interests in the visuals arts led him to photograph people and fashion, as well as shoot a few stop-motion animation videos and commercials. But his real passion lies in alternative photography. He founded”f64”, a purely analog film group in 2006, to explore the organic but creative workflow of pure photography without the restrictions of digital encumbrance. Together with a few like-minded individuals, they have made ripples in the small but vibrant photography circles of Malaysia.

He’s been to New York And London to learn more about photography, while at the same time, assisting and shooting a few fashion shoot for Maniac Magazine, a Pittsburgh based periodical. He’s also attended a few workshops by Bruce Smith, Doug Gordon and Joe DiMaggio on fashion, wedding and street photography. His work have been published in a few local magazines and graced CD covers, and he himself has been featured in a few local newspaper articles with regards to his film photography interests.

To him, creative process is a constant and he loves to travel far and wide to open up his views for new concepts and ideas. When at rest, he enjoys the local buzz in Kepong, where he lives.

Yoong Khean’s interest in photography began in 2001/02, when he was a medical student. Having developed an affinity for black & white images, he learnt the art of developing his own negatives, and hasn’t stopped since. In 2005, he had a joint exhibition with 3 other photographers, which resulted in a 2 page interview with a local photography magazine. Yoong Khean has since exhibited at the Annexe Gallery, Kuala Lumpur (2008), The Print Room, Petaling Jaya (2010) and The China House, Penang (2011).
